Subject: Parent/Student Expectations for the Continuing Education Project for home learning

Online classes begin on Monday, March 30th, at 9:00 am. Monday will be a Black schedule, periods 1-4
Greetings, Bishop Ward High School parents.
Our work as educators is always a collaboration with you, the parents, who are your children's first and most important teachers. That's true every day our school is in session, and it will be true in a special way now that we are having all classes online while sheltering in place to curtail the effects of the coronavirus. We are all in this together!
We want to help everyone understand as best we can what online school will look like and what the expectations will be for every student. Working together, our students will continue to learn and progress, and this experiment with online learning can become a fond memory they will share with their grandchildren.
Here are expectations that your students will need to meet and ways you can help make sure they stay on top of their work:
1. Students must complete one assignment per week, for each of their classes. (Example- If a student has 7 classes, they will be responsible for 7 assignments each week.) Please make sure your students keep up with their assignments each week. Teachers will report students who are missing assignments to our Dean of Students, Mr. Ridley, at the end of each week.
2. It is important that students turn these assignments in each week in order to receive a grade. These grades will determine their score for the remainder of the semester and assure they earn the credit they deserve. Failure to do so will risk a failing grade. Weekly assignments will be the way we can be certain students are actively learning, and since we continue to be governed by Kansas law, truancy laws still apply. After three unexcused absences, a student may be turned in for truancy with the State of Kansas.
3. If for some reason a student cannot get an assignment in, their parent must email Mrs. Reed sreed@wardhigh.org the week of the missed assignment. She will then give the missing assignment list to Dr. Olson and Mr. Ridley. They will be in contact with parents immediately.
4. It is important that Seniors turn in their assignments for each class, each week. If they fail to do so they jeopardize graduating from Bishop Ward High School.
5. If a student needs to get into the building, they need to email Mrs. Sanchez to set up an appointment to do so via ssanchez@wardhigh.org. While most of you have been in the building and cleaned out your lockers -- thanks! -- we fear some may still need to do so. Make an appointment with Mrs. Sanchez right away to get this taken care of.
6. Please direct any questions regarding attendance to Dr. Olson. molson@wardhigh.org
7. It's important that everyone stay up to date on their lessons. Only in extreme circumstances will late work be accepted. In order to be made up the work must have been missed with an excused absence email to Mrs. Reed from a parent.

Nuestro trabajo como educadores es siempre una colaboración con ustedes, los padres, que son los primeros y más importantes maestros de sus hijos. Eso es cierto todos los días que nuestra escuela está en sesión, y será cierto de una manera especial ahora que estamos teniendo todas las clases en línea mientras nos refugiamos en su lugar para reducir los efectos del coronavirus. ¡Estamos todos juntos en esto!
Queremos ayudar a todos a entender lo mejor que podamos cómo será la escuela en línea y cuáles serán las expectativas para cada estudiante. Trabajando juntos, nuestros estudiantes continuarán aprendiendo y progresando, y este experimento con el aprendizaje en línea puede convertirse en un recuerdo cariñoso que compartirán con sus nietos.
Aquí hay expectativas que sus alumnos necesitarán cumplir y maneras en que ustedes pueden ayudar a asegurarse de que se mantengan al tanto de su trabajo:
1. Los estudiantes deben completar una tarea por semana, para cada una de sus clases. (Ejemplo- Si un estudiante tiene 7 clases, será responsable de 7 tareas cada semana.) Por favor, asegúrese de que sus alumnos se mantengan al día con sus tareas cada semana. Los maestros reportarán los estudiantes que faltan tareas a nuestro deano de estudiantes, el Sr. Ridley, al final de cada semana.
2. Es importante que los alumnos entreguen estas tareas en cada semana para recibir una calificación. Estas calificaciones determinarán su puntuación durante el resto del semestre y asegurarán que obtengan el crédito que se merecen. Si no lo hace, se correrá el riesgo de que falle la calificación. Las tareas semanales serán la forma en que podemos estar seguros de que los estudiantes están aprendiendo activamente, y dado que seguimos regidos por la ley de Kansas, las leyes de ausentismo todavía se aplican. Después de tres ausencias injustificadas, un estudiante puede ser reportado por ausentismo con el estado de Kansas.
