Bishop Ward High School

Students Attend CABA Summer Mentoring Program

Four Bishop Ward students have the opportunity to participate in the Central Avenue Betterment Association’s Summer Mentoring Program. Upcoming Seniors Vivian Martinez, Jose Valles, Christian Candelario, and Osvaldo Sanchez were selected to represent Bishop Ward along with students from three other area high schools. The program, sponsored by the Board of Public Utilities, takes place throughout the months of June and July.

Students in the program have the opportunity to network with local business professionals, visit local businesses and learn about exploring their own personal interests. The program provides 4th year high school students with mentors and situational experiences plus good work practices designed to prepare and to focus the student on personal successes.

"Leadership is an important part of obtaining a higher quality of life. At CABA, we center our activities on enhancing the quality of life for the Kansas City Kansas community. The Summer Mentoring Program is based on activities that generate self-interest and engagement with the local community." says Edgar Galicia, Executive Director of CABA.

The program aims to help participants build self-esteem giving them the inner strength to resist negative peer pressure, and gives the community positive student, resident, and business interaction.
