It was an action-packed evening on Feb. 14th as the Bishop Ward Athletic Department hosted CYO Night and the Pep Club hosted a memorable ceremony with the crowning of our Sweetheart Royalty and King of the Court Royalty at the Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball games.
Our very special guests --66 students representing all of our Wyandotte County Catholic grade schools Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) and their coaches, enjoyed free admission to the game, concessions, raffle prizes, and special recognition on the court.
The future Cyclones were greeted by CYO Board Member, Mr. Jerome Gorman ’74, and introduced by the Voice of the Cyclones, Mr. Brian McKiernan ’74.
Girls’ Basketball Head Coach, Carrie Kaifes Lally ’81, thanked everyone for attending and said to the crowd, “Even though we didn’t get the outcome we wanted tonight with a loss, we still won because all of you are here. Thank you for being here and supporting us. We need you! We need your support and spirit in the stands! Thank you!”
Coordinated by Coach Lally, athletic director, Kam Ridley and alumnus Mary Spangler ’80, CYO Night was a great opportunity for future Cyclones to experience a fun-filled evening.
Coach Ridley felt the evening was a great success, commenting, “These CYO student-athletes are the future of Bishop Ward. I deeply value our relationship with our Wyandotte County CYO teams, coaches, and directors. It was really impressive to have so many CYO teams represented and uniting to cheer on the Cyclones. I appreciate all the parents and families for joining us.”
The Pep Club continued the festivities with the Sweetheart and King of the Court celebration. The gentlemen of the 2017 King of the Court Senior Royalty were: Attendants: Adrian Cisneros, Manuel Rodriguez, and Anthony Sanchez; 2nd Prince: Harrison Mages, 1st Prince: Michael LeDesma, and our 2017 King of the Court: Lewis Spangler. The ladies of the Sweetheart Royalty are: Freshman Princess Lucy Lally, Sophomore Princess Kristen Caro, Junior Princess Madison Forbis, 2nd Princess: VaNecia Gethers, 1st Princess: Leeza Chaparro, and 2017 Sweetheart Queen: Carrington Allen.
