Striving for Success

March 31, 2015 (Kansas City, Kan.): The Academy of Finance at Bishop Ward teaches students to be career ready through its Striving for Success Conference. Held on Tuesday, March 29 at the Marriott in Overland Park, Kansas, over 75 students attended this conference to help prepare for college and their future careers. Beyond the skills learned, they were truly blessed with a chance to hear from special keynote speaker, Mr. Don Brain.

Brain is an accomplished business man who began his career with KPMG after graduating from the University of Notre Dame. He then went on to work for 26 years in the insurance industry. He was a frequent speaker on health care issues and testified on the subject to committees in Congress. He is a former city council member and currently works for Global Wine Partners.

Brain shared with students that he had self-doubt throughout his career, but that does not mean you cannot do a certain job. Apply yourself to learn all aspects of the job and work with your peers to understand ways to accomplish goals.

Now in semi-retirement, Brain is as busy as ever. As he pointed out to students, “I have reinvented myself to continue to follow my passions and help other business people find solutions to very challenging problems.”
