BWHS Honors Drama Club Leader

On Friday, March 5 a surprise celebratory assembly was held in the Willard L. Phillips Memorial Auditorium for Miss Kelly Lipovitz '00, to honor her 10 year commitment to Drama Club. The spring musical, “Into the Woods,” will be her last production as she hands off the responsibility of Drama Club Director to Miss Devon Whitton.

Present at the assembly was not only the current students and faculty, but also many of Lipovitz’s family, friends, former students, and drama club volunteers throughout the years.

As students filed into the auditorium, Lipovitz had no idea the assembly was for her until Principal Karen Hopson said her name. In happy tears, Lipovitz joined Hopson on stage. First, Ellyn Calvert ’11, alumna and former drama club member, spoke on behalf of Lipovitz followed by Mrs. Patrice Burns '72 Ludwig, former English department head. Both attested to Lipovitz’s dedication to the students, teaching, and drama club over the last 10 years. Lastly, Frank '73 and Patricia Wessel '73 Lipovitz, came onstage to give their daughter a gift; a T-Shirt Quilt made from the Cast and Crew shirts from all 21 shows that she has directed. The front has each show logo and the back has the signatures from the students throughout the years. The assembly ended with thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

A small reception held in the Library after for the guests who came to support Lipovitz.
