Bishop Ward High School

Sisters Team Up With Athletes

September 21, 2015 (Kansas City, Kan.): Bishop Ward High School’s football team had the privilege of celebrating Mass with The Little Sisters of the Lamb at Little Monastery Lumen Christi, the only Monastery of the Little Sisters in the United States. Bishop Ward president, Reverend Thomas Schrader O. Carm. presided.

Bishop Ward is committed to helping students develop a deep, personal relationship with Christ and students are given daily opportunities to participate in the fundamental elements of Catholic Christian life. Celebrating Mass with local religious is just one way students receive this important part of their development outside of the school.

“I am so glad that our football team had the chance to celebrate liturgy with the sisters. They are such a wonderful example of religious life for our young people in eastern Wyandotte County,” said Rev. Schrader.

The Community of the Lamb was founded in France and recognized in the Dominican Order in 1983. Their vocation is to be like Saint Dominic and Saint Francis, to reach out and serve the poor.

Archbishop Joseph Naumann of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas invited the Little Sisters of the Lamb to establish their first community in North America here in Wyandotte County.

Mass was celebrated on Friday, September 18. Bishop Ward’s football team will celebrate Mass with the Little Sisters again on September 25 and October 30.
