7th and 8th grade students from Our Lady of Unity, Christ the King, St. Patrick's, Holy Name and Resurrection brought their math skills and team spirit to compete in the 31st annual Math Competition held at Bishop Ward High School.
The Joseph P. Carmichael and Bishop Ward High School Math Competition was started 31 years ago by beloved math teacher, Joseph P. Carmichael. Mr. Carmichael's love of math has been passed on to hundreds of students through this annual competition.
Each year, Mr. Carmichael comes back to Bishop Ward to present awards to the winning teams and individuals.
This year, winning 7th grade student, Julian Gallegos, of Resurrection, received a $475 scholarship to Bishop Ward. the winning 8th grade student, Jason Lopez, also of Resurrection, received a $600 scholarship. The scholarship awards are funded by the Joseph P. Carmichael Endowment.
